All About the Earth in the Solar System
What is the Solar System?
The Solar System is a collection of planets, moons, asteroids, and comets that orbit around the Sun.
The Earth: Our Home Planet
The Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only known planet to support life. It has a solid surface and is covered mostly by water.
Features of the Earth
The Earth has many features such as mountains, oceans, rivers, and deserts. It also has an atmosphere that consists of gases like oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide.
The Earth’s Orbit
The Earth orbits around the Sun in an elliptical path called an orbit. It takes about 365.25 days for the Earth to complete one orbit, which we call a year.
Day and Night
The Earth rotates on its axis, an imaginary line passing through its center. This rotation causes day and night. One complete rotation takes 24 hours.
Seasons on Earth
The tilt of the Earth’s axis causes different seasons. When one hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun, it experiences summer, while the other hemisphere experiences winter.
The Moon: Our Natural Satellite
The Earth has one natural satellite called the Moon. It orbits around the Earth and takes about 27.3 days to complete one revolution.
