Subject Pronouns
Subject pronouns are words that replace nouns as the subject of a sentence. They include words like “I,” “you,” “he,” “she,” “it,” “we,” and “they.” Subject pronouns make sentences clearer and help avoid repetition.
Object Pronouns
Object pronouns are words that replace nouns as the object of a sentence. They include words like “me,” “you,” “him,” “her,” “it,” “us,” and “them.” Object pronouns are used when someone or something receives the action of the verb.
Possessive Pronouns
Possessive pronouns show ownership or possession. They include words like “mine,” “yours,” “his,” “hers,” “its,” “ours,” and “theirs.” Possessive pronouns eliminate the need to use a noun and an apostrophe to show possession.
Reflexive Pronouns
Reflexive pronouns are used when the subject and object of a sentence are the same. They include words like “myself,” “yourself,” “himself,” “herself,” “itself,” “ourselves,” and “themselves.” Reflexive pronouns add emphasis to the action or show that someone is performing an action on themselves.
Demonstrative Pronouns
Demonstrative pronouns are used to point out specific people, places, or things. They include words like “this,” “that,” “these,” and “those.” Demonstrative pronouns help indicate distance or proximity.
Interrogative Pronouns
Interrogative pronouns are used to ask questions. They include words like “who,” “whom,” “whose,” “which,” and “what.” Interrogative pronouns help gather information.
Indefinite Pronouns
Indefinite pronouns refer to non-specific people or things. They include words like “someone,” “anyone,” “everyone,” “everything,” “nothing,” “somebody,” “nobody,” “anybody,” and “everybody.” Indefinite pronouns are used when we don’t have specific information about the subject.
Relative Pronouns
Relative pronouns are used to connect clauses or phrases to a noun. They include words like “who,” “whom,” “whose,” “which,” and “that.” Relative pronouns help provide additional information about the noun.
Intensive Pronouns
Intensive pronouns are used to emphasize a noun or pronoun in a sentence. They include words like “myself,” “yourself,” “himself,” “herself,” “itself,” “ourselves,” and “themselves.” Intensive pronouns are not necessary for the sentence’s meaning but add emphasis.
